Week #26 - Wrong Numbers Can Be Miracles!

Monday, July 20, 2020

Oi gente!!!!!!!
Don't worry - it was only 104 today outside!
Wow this week has been super fun and crazy! Definitely a lot of crazy stuff happened this week, but also it was a chill week. This week was one where it was feeling a little harder with being stuck inside and it's making me crazy because its been a long time... but besides that I've been doing great :)

So this week we had a lesson IN PERSON with Shay and Brittney at the church building and wow... that was amazing. So we've been teaching Shay for a while and recently Brittney, Shay's friend, joined the lessons. So we decided to go over the Restoration for Brittney and the spirit was so strong and was testifying so strongly to them. They both love the Book of Mormon and are gaining testimonies of it. Shay was able to share her testimony to her friend of the Book of Mormon and it was awesome to hear how much she loves it. They also came to church again yesterday and that was awesome.

Last week we had a lesson with Esther and talked to her about Family History,  and this week we had a lesson with her about how to start Family History and we showed her how to find her family members and we even found her great grandma! She had a first name, the date she was born, and where she was born and with that information, we were able to find her grandma. Once we found her great grandma, the spirit was so strong!! She now is talking to her mom to get more names and dates of people and actually is super excited to meet back with us again today!!

This week was super awesome, but definitely one of the harder ones being here... We had to stop teaching a lot of people because they weren't interested in learning more. It made me sad at first, but they aren't ready yet and hopefully one day soon they will be.

We got to talk to a lot of ward members this week and just got to hear a lot of conversion stories from people. That was awesome to hear!!

So one night, I was sad because some of our lessons fell through and we had stopped teaching people... BUT we decided to call a random person that used to be taught... it ended up being the wrong number, but he was interested in learning more and YEEHAW we have another lesson set up for Thursday!!

I guess what I learned the most this week was that we always need to have faith and look for the miracles in life. THEN we can feel Christ's love for us. LOVE YOU ALL!

Week #25 - The One Where We Continue To Have Miracles!

Monday, July 13, 2020

Hellooooo!!
Sister Merritt and I OUTSIDE!
Sometimes you match with your companion!

This week has been AWESOME!!! I just love my new companion Sister Merritt. We get along super well. We also flow super well while we are teaching and it is awesome. This week we taught a lot of people. HERE WE GOOO!

So we have been teaching this one girl named Shay (who turned out to be a member but remembered nothing of the church, having been baptized and then was unable to attend since then) and her friend Brittney!! We taught them a couple times this week and they are AWESOME!! So Shay knows a little more than Brittney and we were talking about the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and I have such a strong testimony of the Atonement and all that Christ has done for us. So we tried asking Shay if she wanted to share what the Atonement is to her, and she said she didn't want to. So I was able to share my testimony of the Atonement and it ended up they didn't hear a single thing I said because the service/wifi connection was so bad LOL!! Then all of a sudden Shay starts to explain what it is and it was the most beautiful testimony ever. The spirit was so strong in that room while she was testifying to her friend of the Atonement. Definitely a great part of the week. Shay and Brittney even came to church with us yesterday and that was AWESOME!! Wowza they are awesome!

This week we also focused on talking to our members!! So we had this awesome lesson with Brother and Sister Bell in our ward. We were talking about how we can turn outwards instead of being inwards, and Brother Bell started telling us about his neighbor he should give a Book of Mormon to. The spirit was definitely telling him what to do which was awesome. We also had a lesson with our new Relied Society president and her husband, and she was telling us how she has been trying to get into contact with this one member who isn't on the path of righteousness to help them out. Right when she was telling us, she started to get a phone call.... FROM THAT PERSON and I mean that was pretty COOL!!!
We have been trying to teach this one lady whose husband is a member, but she's never seemed too interested but.... WE FOUND THE WAY TO HER HEART and it is family history! We started telling her about this and she loved it! So we are talking with her more about that and she seems really excited!

We also struggled a little this week because a lot of the people we were teaching told us this week they weren't interested anymore. And that is always hard especially when you've formed relationships with these people. Crazy how you can form relationships over the phone and zoom. But we definitely was so many miracles because we kept our faith. One scripture I read during my personal study was Alma 32:21 and this chapter talks all about FAITH and it says, "... Faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if we have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true." I love this scripture. I love the whole Book of Mormon and know that it is true. I love being a missionary and am praying for all of you!!

Week #24 - 6 Months As A Missionary

Monday, July 6, 2020
Me and my new companion Sister Merritt!
HELLO FRIENDS!!! Wowza this week was definitely super fun!! This week we had transfers and I am still here in Casa Grande, but I have a new companion! Her name is Sister Merritt and we are already best friends. She is super awesome. We teach really well together. Here are some miracles and fun times from the week:

So the day before Sister Merritt got here, she was at her church building in Mesa and all of a sudden the phone started ringing, like the old dinky wall phones that nobody uses anymore. So she kinda left it but then after it kept ringing, she felt SOOO prompted to answer it , so she did. And someone was actually on the other line and.... IT WAS SOMEONE FROM CASA GRANDE!!! That was super exciting. Then Sister Merritt came here and we called this lady and went and gave her a Book of Mormon. The coolest thing is that she only lives 3 minutes away from where we live right now. CRAZY!!
Green-eyed and blond missionaries!
Sister Merritt is from Wyoming. She is amazing!
This week we also talked with Shay more, and on Tuesday, we were talking with her and she told us that she was talking to her mom about how she's been meeting with us and reading the Book of Mormon with us, and her mom told her that she was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints... WHAT?? Super random and so we actually did find her records and she is indeed already a member, yet doesn't remember anything about The Church of Jesus Christ. Which then it all makes sense with how much she loves what we are teaching her. She just understands it all so well, since she has that gift of the holy ghost. So now we are just trying to help her remember that promise she made with God.

One thing our mission has been big on is working on facebook. So we did some of that this week. I joined this learning Portuguese page of facebook. Then a couple Brazilians requested to follow me, well actually a ton of Brazilians requested to follow me haha. One of them even messaged me and I got a little scared at first, but then the spirit told me to message him back so I did. He said he wants my help learning English, and in return, he will help me with Portuguese. So I sent him a church service that my mission has put together and told him it was people testifying of Jesus Christ in English so he can learn faster. AND HE WATCHED IT!! I forgot how loving and kind the Brazilians are. So that is one way I have been able to keep up my mission language.
Transfers brought Sister Williams and my companion Sister Merritt--
I love all these sisters and am so glad I get to be with them!
S. Williams, S.Sterling, S. Merritt, Me, S. Wilcox
I have loved this week! it's always a little different with changes, but I am doing well and I love my Savior and being a missionary for Him. I hope all of you have a great rest of your week. Try reaching out to someone over social media and see what happens!!

Week #23 - An Angel baptism

Monday, June 29, 2020

WHAT. A. WEEK.
I am so thankful for this wonderful Sisters I live and serve with.
Transfers this week take some of them to new areas. I will miss them!
S. Dangerfield, me, S. Corn, S. Wilcox
Let me just start off by saying that this week was by far the best week here. This week we taught a lot of lessons and taught a lot of new people! We also found out about transfers today, and Sister Dangerfield is leaving me :'( but a sister named Sister Merritt is coming to be my companion here and she seems so nice!
I am so grateful for S. Dangerfield this past transfer!
She is amazing!

This week we started teaching a new girl named Shay and she is super awesome!! She totally understands everything we are teaching her. We found out she lost someone close to her, and so we decided to talk more about Gods plan for us here on earth, before and after. All of a sudden she started laughing and we were a little confused, so we asked her what was so funny and she said, "I just feel so happy right now with what you guys are saying." That invited the spirit so much!!

We have a friend named Deidre we've been teaching and she kinda seems like she doesn't like us... but this week we talked to her and she told us that she doesn't want either of us to leave (rip Sis Dangerfield) and that she's grown a close relationship with us. It's really amazing to see the relationships you grow with people, especially since we've only talked on the phone with her. But the spirit is still there on the phone.

We have been teaching this one guy who is a messianic Jew, but he believes in Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. He understand what we are teaching him, but still has his own beliefs!

This week our church started back up and literally nobody was there and it was definitely really weird... but it was awesome to be able to go back to church. It was funny because the last time I was in a church building for church was in Brazil!!

I also got the opportunity to sing this week! YAY!! Singing is definitely how I feel the spirit the strongest and it is a beautiful way to testify of Christ. I sang for our online church service on Facebook for our mission since so many churches still are closed. Everyone go look it up on Facebook and watch this next Sunday!!

The HIGHLIGHT of this week:
We have been teaching this little girl named Angel, and she is exactly that: an angel. Her parents are not members, but she lives with her great grandma who is a member. We went to their house last week for sacrament and Angel turned and whispered to Sister Dangerfield, "I was to be baptized on the 28th!" OKAY TENDER and her great grandma didn't want to do it that soon, so she said we could July 12th. Anywho, skip ahead to this last Wednesday when I was just thinking to myself, and thought, "Why are we waiting that long when she wants to be baptized this Sunday?" Next thing you know, I'm planning a baptism even though everyone else thought she should wait. But I asked, pushed, and guess what? Angel was baptized on Sunday and it was so spiritual and an amazing experience. Her grandma was so happy that we had it happen and thanked us so much.
Such a special day with Angel!
I am so grateful to be here and to be a missionary. I know that I am meant to be here as a missionary, and I have learned so much from learning to teach in English. I hope all of you have such an amazing week!!
