Week #76 - I love you, Brasilia!

Monday, July 5, 2021
HELLOOOO EVERYBODY!

Welp, this is it. It's finally come to an end. My last email yo you all on the mission! That's right, I am flying home to Utah on Friday and will get there on Saturday. But I still have these last couple of days to finish out strong! But before I go on, let me tell you about the amazing miracles we saw this week...
We started off our week by going to a super sweet lady's home in our ward! And her daughter had invited 2 of her friends who aren't members to their home to participate in a family home evening with us! And we got there and got to know them and shared a message with them, and they both seemed interested in learning more!
This last week, we had our zone conference and it was so fun! Sadly, it was my last zone conference. But we received lots of advice from our mission presidente and from others as well! And I got to see a bunch of my buddies and say goodbye to them while I was there! For those that are leaving, they get the opportunity to share their testimony with everyone. So I did! And it was sad... but it was still good!
Now for some pretty cool miracles that happened this week... we were teaching some members and our way back home, a cute old lady was out front of her home; her name is Dosanjos. And we stopped and started to talk to her for a minute. Next thing you know, she invites us into her home! And so we taught her about the Book of Mormon and we are going to go back tonight to teach her more!
So now the coolest miracle... we got  text from a cute girl named Ana, who we thought was a member because she had told us she goes to our church on Sundays. But she texted us telling us that she needed to talk to us, so we call her to talk--lol. And this is the message she sent to us: "I am wanting to get baptized on Tuesday and am wanting to get my baptism interview on Sunday night. Is that okay?" Welp..... OF COURSE IT IS!! So our wonderful friend Ana is finally getting baptized tomorrow. She had to wait awhile too because her mom wouldn't allow her too, but her mom finally said yes! And she is so ready to be baptized. And what a miracle that I'm still here to see this miracle!
Beautiful Ana - I love her already so much!

This week, on July 1st, I hit 18 MONTHS!! My oh my has it been the craziest 18 months... from starting in Brazil, being kicked out, going home for a month, getting reassigned to Arizona Tempe, stayed there for 9 months, then I returned to Brazil!!! And during those 18 months, my sister had a baby and my other sister got married. So you could say I've been through a lot, but it was all worth it.

Because I got to serve my Savior, and I got to see other come unto Him.

I know that this church is true.

One blessing from serving a mission is that my faith is unshakeable now! And I know that the only way we can feel this happiness is by coming into our Savior and following His example.

Thank you to all for the support and love the last 18 months, and I am excited to see you all in person!

Week #75 - Giving thanks - "sing praises unto the Lord!"

Monday, June 28, 2021
HOWDY EVERYBODY!! It's already been a week? Really? Man... time is going super fast. Which makes me nervous because I only have a week and a half left before I come home!! What? Where did the last 18 months go? But I have seen lots of miracles this past week! Let me tell you about some of them.
The new American sister finally got here, so now I am with Sister Melanson and I am so sad we don't have more time together because I LOOOVE her!! But we are honestly the same person hahaha! We love the same music, dance parties, and we have the same personality. Its been a little hard with helping 3 American sisters learn a language that I'm still trying to learn as well, but they are doing good!!
We taught our friend Pedro this week about the gospel of Jesus Christ and he told us that he wants to he baptized!! Just that we wants to learn a little bit more first, so we are helping him to get a Book of Mormon and we are trying to get him to church as well!! So that right there was a miracle!

We have been trying super hard to find new people to teach in our areas, and one thing we have decided to do is use Facebook. To be honest, I don't really like using facebook. I never had success with us and some people sent some pretty mean things to me, so I always steered clear of it. Until this week, and I message a bunch of people one day... and only got one response... from someone who was already a member of our church 😂 what are the odds with that? But, I still had faith and sent a couple more messages. And Sunday night, I got a message back from someone, and she said: "Hi there! My name is Karla, and i am wanting to get closer to God. Here's my number!" uhh.... MIRACLES! So we have a lesson scheduled with Karla tonight to teach her some more about our beliefs!
Another cool miracle was also on Sunday, when we were calling a bunch of people who used to be taught by the missionaries, and we called Fábia, and she told she didn't remember talking to missionaries, but that she is super interested! She told us to even send her our address of our church building so she could come to church with us... OKAY!!
Me and Sister Melanson were praying a lot to find some new people to teach, and look what happened when we had faith! It was honestly such a cool miracle. And then after these miracles, Sister Melanson told me, "We should say a prayer of gratitude for these new friends we found!" And I loved that! And then my dad today talked to me about that too. And he shared this scripture that I'll share with all of you guys.

Ether 6:9
"And they did sing praises unto the Lord; yea, the brother of Jared did sing praises unto the Lord, and he did thank and praise the Lord all the day long; and when the night came, they did not cease to praise the Lord."

Éter 6:9
"E cantavam louvores ao Senhor; sim, o irmão de Jarede cantava louvores ao Senhor e agradecia e glorificava ao Senhor o dia todo; e quando chegava a noite, não cessavam de louvar ao Senhor."

This week I want to invite all of you to give thank to our Lord for all of your blessings, and you will feel so much more happiness in your days!!

Até mais!

Week #74 - Back in Brasilia (Gama), the temple, and two new companions!

The Brasilia Temple behind me!

Oh man, what a week! Honestly, it was a pretty fun and crazy week... I am now here in Gama with my 2 comps, Sister Melanson from Texas, and Sister Campbell from Idaho! They were both serving in the same mission in North Dakota. This week on Friday, Sister Onstott another American will arrive and Sister Campbell will be her companion!! And I will be with Sister Melanson until I go home.

But my companions didn't get here until Friday, so I was in Valparaíso with my buddy Sister Ferreira and her new comp Sister Christensen. And we all had a blast together. I'll be honest, it was hard because I was alone over 3 areas here in Gama, but wasn't even here in Gama hahaha! But we had a blast. We actually found a couple new friends to teach while I was with the Sisters in Valparaíso.
But the on Thursday night I went to Asa Sul to our STLs home to then go to the airport the next day! But Friday morning, we got the opportunity to go to the Brasília temple and give a little training lesson of our beliefs to the people building the temples!! It was so cool, we got to see the temple up close and everything! We couldn't take any pictures while we were inside, but we could while we were outside!

Then, my companions arrived! And we finally came to our area and we are loving it!
We have had a couple lessons so far and are continuing to learn more about our areas. My companions don't speak Português too well hahaha, so it's been pushing me to speak and understand a lot better!
My new beautiful companions!

We have  recent convert in one of our wards, and his name is Fernando and his wife is Izabel and they are hilarious! We went and visited them on Saturday night. Fernando is from Portugal and Izabel is from Rio de Janeiro... so we had some pretty different accents going on during the lesson hahaha! But we wanted to teach them about the priesthood and help Fernando achieve that next goal of receiving the priesthood, and when we asked him about the priesthood, he told us: "oh you don't need to worry! I'm receiving the priesthood tomorrow!" Well... OKAY! Hahaha it was super funny and super awesome!!
I'm grateful to be here in Gama with these awesome sisters the last couple weeks of my mission. I have been studying a lot lately about light, and the light of christ in our lives and have found a lot of sculptures about this. One of my favorites is in the Book of Mormon.

3 Nephi 18:24 "Therefore, hold up your light that it may shine unto the world. Behold I am the light which ye shall hold up—that which ye have seen me do. Behold ye see that I have prayed unto the Father, and ye all have witnessed."

3 Néfi 18:24 "Portanto, levantai vossa luz para que brilhe perante o mundo. Eis que eu sou a luz que levantareis — aquilo que me vistes fazer. Eis que vistes que eu orei ao Pai; e vós todos o testemunhastes"

Remember to show your light to others so they can feel the love of our Savior more in their lives!
