Week #42 - YUMA is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!

Monday, November 9, 2020

Me with my new companions: Sister Hartley and Sister Martin

HEYOOOOO! This week was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!! So many miracles here in Yuma. So, we are over the YSA here and also the Yuma Valley ward. The YSA has a lot of people here in the Marines and also in the National Guard. So that's been fun! Me and my companions have the BEST of times. Sister Martin was reassigned from New Zealand, and Sister Hartley has been in AZ the whole time.

Service always is better with lemonade!

Buuuut here are some miracles from the week:

This week we started teaching our friend named Rocell and she is from.the Phillipines! Her English is really good though. We taught her the first half of the Restoration, and then gave her a Book of Mormon and she read the chapter that we had told her to and understand like all of it. Then we had a lesson with her yesterday and my oh my she just loved hearing about Joseph Smith and the Restoration. She also had a highlighter and was highlighting all the verses we shared with her. It was soooo cool! We are going to start meeting with her like 3 times a week!!

So we have a funny recent convert named Joey... and he is super cool. But he has this thing with missionaries where they have to pass this initiation. So me and Sister Martin are going through that right now but he gave us nicknames. My nickname is guillotine... hahaha but he's been praying whether or not to serve a mission and this week he decided... TO SERVE A MISSION YAHOO!! We are stoked for him.

We have another friend we are teaching named Kaylee and we invited her to a recent convert devotional last night and she came and she LOOOVED it!! She then messaged us afterwards and told us that she felt so accepted that night and loved and she hadn't felt that for a while. It was so cool!!

Yesterday at church, our friend Myles who got baptized 2 months ago was able to pass the sacrament for the first time and our other friend Michael White who got baptized 2 weeks ago got the priesthood. I am so grateful for the Priesthood. It has blessed my life so much and I have seen the miracles from those who have the priesthood.

I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY!! have a great week everyone :))

Week #41 - Ten Months out & Going to YUMA

Monday, November 2, 2020

The TEMPLE! With Sister McEwen

WHAT. A. WEEK. Some crazy things are gonna be happening this next week... I'm getting transferred and I'm going to Yuma (aka, the holy land as it is called in our mission). Literally it's the best place in the mission, or least that's what everyone has said hahaha! I'm going to be in a trio down there, but I'll for sure have more info about all of that next week! But I am sad to be leaving here and to say goodbye to Sister McEwen, my amazing daughter. Our time together has been awesome. But change is good. Here are some milagres (miracles) from this last week:

Well, we asked some of our ward members who we should reach out to, and they gave us a TON of names. So we reached out to a couple of them this week. One of them was the nicest lady who had a family member recently passed away, and it was really hard because of this crazy covid. So we decorated her front door with hearts and gave her cookies, and she LOVED it. She texted us later on telling us how much it meant to us. It always makes me soooo happy to see others happy from service!
Delivering cookies and hearts

This week, we got a call from one of our neighbors and they told me that they had pao de queijo and guarana (brazilian food and drink) for me!! YAY! I was the happiest ever!
Pao de queijo and guarana (that is what is in
the Dr Pepper box--more quarana from a member
who served in Brasilia. Our members our so kind to
take such good care of us! I love them!

Probably the best thing from this week was that I was able to go to the TEMPLE!! WHAAAT? My companion, Sister McEwen, had the opportunity to go through this past week and when going through the temple, you have someone (usually a family member) who goes through with you and helps you. So I was going to do that with her since her parents couldn't come (they live in Europe). Then we get to the temple, and her sister surprises her by being there! So that was super cool and such an amazing spiritual experience. The last time I had been in the temple was 7 and a half months ago. I love the temple!!

This week was also Halloween, so we were able to chill that night which was fun. But, we do have this one adorable neighbor and she always comes over and brings us yummy food. She isn't a member, but she is special. So she came over this week and brought us yummy bread, and I felt the prompting to give her a Book of Mormon... and she took it! Turns out two other sisters had the same prompting as well. So I guess what I learned from that is to ALWAYS follow your promptings!!

My oh my I love being a missionary, and honestly these past couple months have been pretty hard. But I have learned how to rely on my Savior, and how we can find that hope in Him. So trust in Him, and He will help you!!

Here's one of my favorite verses from the Book of Mormon that talks about trusting in the Lord. Alma 36:3 - "for I do know that whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions, and shall be lifted up at the last day."

LOVE YOU ALL!!

Sister Goasland spent the night and worked with the other
sisters in our house. It was so fun to have her with us!

Week #40 - Talks at Church, Reading The Book of Mormon in 40 Days & A New Family

 Monday, October 26, 2020

WHAT. AN. AMAZING. WEEK.
Literally an amazing week. Sooooo many miracles. Let me start off by saying God is good. Here's some of the miracles I saw this week...

We got out of quarantine and now we are sooo happy hahaha! But honestly, quarantine is hard. But now we dont have to be stuck inside all day lol!!
This was definitely the biggest miracle from this last week. I wrote about that family we were going to be teaching, and we finally were able to teach them this week! We taught the Restoration and there is something so powerful about the Restoration, and we were able to see that with this family!! They asked all about the temples, and sealing, and missionary work and it was AWESOME!! It's nice to finally have someone to teach again hahaha. But they are the Davis family. We are gonna have dinner with them this next week, and do service as well.

We got the wonderful opportunity to speak in church this week and it was such a cool experience. This is actually my first time speaking as a missionary which is super cool! We got the topic of Hope in Jesus Christ and I have been able to find so much hope through him. I also got the opportunity to speak on the Arizona Tempe Mission church service on facebook and that was such a fun experience as well! And I also finished reading the Book of Mormon in 40 days and WOWZA... IT IS SO TRUE!!! I love being able to share the gospel with others and the opportunity to be a missionary. (You can find the video of my talk on FB under Arizona Tempe Mission/Videos/October 25th)
Sorry this is a little shorter, but know that I am grateful for all of you and keep you all in my prayers. Love you all so much!! Also wouldn't mind a little email from anyone 😊

Week #39 - Miracles in Quarantine Still Happen

 Monday, October 19, 2020

OI TUDO MUNDO!!!!
What a great week. Miracles truly happen when you least expect them to. AKA: quarantine lol. We saw some cool things happen this week and it was SO FUN!! Here they are...
While in quarantine, we have had to think outside of the box. So we have our app on our phone that gives us the numbers for our members and for those we are teaching, but we decided to go through the SIM card on our phone. We came across a lot of names we didnt recognize, so we called them and said something like, "hey it's the sisters! is this *so and so*" they usually say yes , "cool, we actually have no idea who you are. We just have your number saved in our phone." Then that sparks a conversation with them hahaha! Wellllllll... we called this one lady named Cassidy, and she was super kind. She told us she isn't apart of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but that she has family, friends, and neighbors that are. Well, turns out I had actually found Cassidy on FB the day before. WHAT??? Anywho we talk to her for a minute and she is so kind. Fast forward to this Saturday when we go for it and call her again and asked her if we could come over this next friday (our quarantine ends on Thursday) and then she told us, "you probably want my whole family there, so can you come over on thursday?" WELL OF COURSE WE CAN!! So that will be happening this week and we are pumped! Definitely a quarantine miracle.

I have been using facebook a lot. Trying to think of different ways to reach out to people. I was searching through this group and this girl shared some of her concerns about the unknown of the afterlife. I reached out to her, we ended up chatting on fb messenger for a couple days and we have a lot in common and then we had a video call with her this past week and taught her all about the plan of Salvation and she absolutely loved it! It was cool to see a miracle happen from Facebook like that. We are still talking and hopefully will be able to teach her again this week!

Those are the main big things that happened this past week. But we did have something funny happen this week...
So our zone has all been into pranking, so the elders on the reservation came and dropped off a sketchy doll to he, so we pranked the elders in our district and they still dont know it was us. It's been fun since we are getting stir crazy here in quarantine. I'll attach some pictures of when we pranked them this week!!
Overall, these past 2 weeks of quarantine have been miracle filled. Crazy what happens when God's plan is better than what you imagined. I love being a missionary and I love you all as well!!!

Also, here's a scripture that I loved from this week (shout out to papa G)
3 Nephi 18:24
"Therefore, hold up your light that it may shine unto the world. Behold I am the light which ye shall hold up—that which ye have seen me do. Behold ye see that I have prayed unto the Father, and ye all have witnessed."
SHINE YOUR LIGHT TOWARDS OTHERS!!!

Week #38 - Quarantined AGAIN...

 Monday, October 12, 2020

HELLOOOO!! This week was definitely interesting.... here's some fun stuff that happened!

Wednesday we had exchanges, and I was with Sister Vance in her area for the day. It was soooooo much fun! And we got to teach some non members which is nice, because I haven't done that too much lol. But it was honestly such a fun day. We made some cookies with some elders in our zone, and it's this random recipe this one elder has and he has never made it before... it was fun hahaha! But for dinner, I went back to my area with Sister McEwen and we went to the most kind families house. We had dinner with them last week, and went to their house for general conference! But they have the most ADORABLE twin boys that are 3, and when we were leaving, they gave me and Sister McEwen flowers from a bush outside... it was adorable... so of course we got a picture with them!

This week we also had... ZONE CONFERENCE! And we went up to Casa Grande (my last area yeehaw) and we had a blast! And after that, we went to this one guy Sylvester's house, because he said we could the day before, and we got to get to know him a little bit, and then he told us that we could come back on Sunday to have a lesson with him! And he had a Book of Mormon right Mormon with him!! And then........

The next day on Friday, we got a call from our zone leaders and we are officially in quarantine again because someone at one of the zone conference's got tested positive for covid, and so to be safe with all the missionaries since we were all exposed, we are in a 2 week quarantine. Yaaaaaaaaaaay... honestly, I was super sad when I found out, but me and Sister McEwen have seen miracles of people we've been trying to call have answered, or now we have time to study a little more. It's gonna be all good. So be sure to keep the Tempe mission in your prayers so we dont go crazy hahaha!

One thing we've been trying to use more is FACEBOOK! And we've seen awesome miracles from that. We are saying a bunch of prayers with people, offering service (for when we're out of quarantine), and honestly so much more.

Even though it's been a different mission experience than I thought it would be, it's honestly just what I need. I love my Savior and I love learning more about Him, the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith, and SO MUCH MORE!

Love you all! I loooooove recieving emails and letters... so send em all my way!

Week #37 - General Conference & Half Way Mark

 Monday, October 5, 2020

WOWZA what a week! It sure was fun! Let me just start off by saying that the church is T R U E!! I loved being able to watch General Conference and hear from the Prophet and his Apostles. I also love my companion Sister McEwen! She is AWESOME! Here are some cool things that happened this week:

We has the awesome opportunity to have a lesson with a part member family. It went SOOO GOOD! It was Sister McEwen's first time teaching someone who is non member. And it went so good. We taught the Restoration and the spirit was with us so strongly! Church is true.

We have a cute old couple named Betty and Cookie (adorable I know) and they are in our Zone Leaders ward, but it is a tradition that the sisters sing to them each week. So we were able to go and sing to them in person this week! It was so much fun! I miss singing and need to do it more.

This area is still pretty hard. We have our times of almost feeling hopeless, but God knows us and is always there for us. So we turn to Him in prayer and He helps us to find that strength. We are now helping out with our mission Facebook page and we help find people to teach on that. We are excited for that.

One quote I loved from I this weekend was from Elder Holland: "Your prayers are heard and are always answered, just not how we choose it to be." God will always answer and hear our prayers, as long as we put our trust in Him!!

Something else fun that happened this week.... I HIT MY HALF WAY MARK ON MY MISSION!! WOOT WOOT! This past Wednesday I hit 9 months on my mission and WOWZA it's been a fun adventure haha. I am so grateful for the amazing experiences I have had.

Thank you all so much for the love and support! I love being a missionary and I am so excited to see what these next 9 months have in store. ♡♡

Week #36 - I'm A Mother!

 Monday, September 28, 2020

BOAAAA SEMANAAAA!!

Holy cow it's been a good week! Here are some fun things that happened this week....

IM A MOTHER! Yes, you read that correctly. I am officially training someone! Her name is Sister McEwen and she is adorable. Her dad is in the navy, so she tells everyone she's from America lol cuz she's never lived anywhere longer than 3 years. She actually was in Italy before. CRAZY! But I love her. She is a reassigned as well, supposed to be going to Canada Montreal, french speaking. So now I can relearn french!

Saying goodby to Sister Griffiths

Welcome Sister McEwen!

We are seeing a lot of progress right now... we actually have 2 potential people that we could start teaching. YAY! One of them is named Parker, we were supposed to have a lesson with him last week, and yesterday... but he had to cancel both times. But we are hopeful for this week! The other is someone that used to be taught that we actually stopped teaching right when I got here. BUT we called him and he answered and is interested in hearing a message from us! We are so excited!

Last transfer here was hard, I mean all missions are hard, but it felt extra hard. I guess the thing that changed was that I have been able to find that hope and that faith in Christ. We have been teaching non-stop, mostly members but it's been so fun to help them strengthen their testimonies and to build that trust with them!!

We have decided to try and do more Facebook finding and we actually found someone named Eric from Uganda and he is super cool. We then found someone in Uganda serving as a missionary and we sent him as a referral! Yay!

FUNNY STORY:
So we went to the church this week for language study and while we were there we found a SCORPION!! So we caught it in a cup and then like teenage boys, since we didn't know what to do with it, we put it in the microwave.... it was fun hahaha!

But it has been a great week and I am loving life right now. I love receiving emails so write meeeee!!
