Week #45 - Thanksgiving in YUMA

 Monday, November 30, 2020

What. A. Week!!

Honestly, so many crazy things happened this week!! I'll try to write them all hahaha. But let me just tell ya... being a missionary is honestly the BEST thing ever!! Alrighty here's the fun stuff from this week:

Last Monday night we were chilling, calling some people, and then we got a self referral! Meaning someone either went online or reached out to SLC and wanted to learn more. And his name is Gee. He has a craaaaazy story lol but we are probably going to start teaching him... we will see...

We have been inviting a lot of our YSA members to hand out copies of the Book of Mormon to people, and our friend Mark DID!! it was awesome. And his friend he gave it to, he asked if he also wanted to talk with the missionaries.... AND HE SAID YES!!! There are so many people out there who are ready and willing to hear the gospel, but just need to be asked. So go ask someone to learn more! We have a lesson set up with him for this next week and we are so excited to meet him and get to know him better.

We have this one friend named Manny. He has been a member for a little over a year, and is soooo awesome. He is wanting to go on a mission, so we've been meeting with him to see how we can help him spiritually prepare. We were asking him is he had any questions about church and he had such a good question! He asked us about living with our families forever, but if they didn't make the promises here on earth in order to be with them forever. He knew about baptisms for the dead (proxy baptism for those who have passed on done in the temple) but he didn't know that we could be proxy for other promises, like sealings!! He literally was so amazed he couldn't believe it! It was a cool experience. And then we invites him to hand out a Book of Mormon to someone, and had him pray right there to do it and he did... and he thought of someone! So now he is waiting until he sees him again to give one to him. YAY!!
Crazy story time.... we were driving home from dropping off a cake to someone, and then a baby kitten runs in front of our car and almost gets run over by other cars, so us being girls get out of the car and try to save the baby kitten. Then it get STUCK IN OUR TIRE! WHAT?!?! Not dead, but stuck behind it and we couldn't get it out for like 20 minutes. We finally got it out, took it to a members house, and found out that member was super allergic to cats lol. She gave us the name and number for a lady to go give it to who LOOOVES cats (and also isnt a member) until we would find a place for the cat. We called this lady the next day, and she tells us how she got but by the cat... how it is feral... and how she is being rushed to the urgent care because the bite got infected... WHAT?!?! Anyways.... don't go picking up random cats lol. Pray for Denice that she's okay lol.
This week we also had Thanksgiving! It was so much fun. We went to 2 dinners, one of them was with the marines who didnt got home and the other was with this cute older couple! But honestly it was so much fun and I am grateful for so many things. For my family, being a missionary, the Book of Mormon, and Modern day prophet, and of course... Jesus Christ. I love being able to represent Him and learn more about Him!!

Week #44 - Star Wars is in YUMA

 Monday, November 23, 2020

OLA GENTE!! Wowza what a week. We saw a lot of hardships that turned into miracles this past week. But let me tell ya, I love being a missionary because I get to talk about my SAVIOR!! Anywho... here's some more about my week!

This week were able to help out with FHE with all the YSA and it was honestly so fun... I love being in the YSA because they're all fun and energetic. We played a Book of Mormon family feud type of game. It was a blast and a lot of people came to it.

We have a friend we have been teaching for a while and she told us she didn't want to he taught anymore... it was honestly super hard, because she believed in everything we were saying but just got scared. This just showed me how important it is to have faith and to act according to your faith. Even though it was a sad experience, we taught with so much unity and we actually all shed some tears. Because it's hard when you see someone decided to make a decision that would've help them so much.

We've been teaching Edwin, and he's on date for baptism (it was in November, but now it's the beginning of December). We met Edwin at the food bank. He is there because of the National Guard and that's where they are stationed. But we found out that the National Guard are leaving beginning of December... so Edwin will be going back to Phoenix so we won't be able to teach him anymore and we decided that it wouldn't be fair to have him get baptized here, and then move like 3 days later. So we will probably hold off on his baptism until he is in Phoenix. But everyone, continue to pray for him!!

Me and sis Hartley and sis Martin spend a lot of time at the church building, just because it is nice to have a change of scenery. Anywho, for some weird reason a lot of random people like to hangout there. Probably because they feel the happiness there of the spirit. But we met this one guy who got baptized a couple years ago, and he is now living in his truck. We don't remember his name but we are going to have a lesson with him! We call him random church guy hahah. So keep random church guy in your prayers.

We went to the sand dunes today where star wars was filmed... it was SICK!! I literally walked where Luke Skywalker did... pretty cool... we also went shopping with our friend Kathryn who is starting to come back to church. She's awesome.

Honestly this week was hard, but we saw SOOO many miracles!! Keep the faith and you can see miracles as well. Keep praying for Mark so he can get baptized!!

Week #43 - Miracles in YUMA and Teaching a Lesson with a General Authority

 Monday, November 16, 2020

Wooooooooowwww what a week. Honestly so many cool miracles from this past week I don't know what I'll have room to share about lol. Let me just start off by saying how much I LOVE MY COMPANIONS!! We all get along so well, and have so many inside jokes. We also think were the funniest people ever lol... anywho, let's get to some miracles....
We have our friend we are teaching named Edwin and he is awesome. He is in the national guard and he works at the food bank right now. Anyways, we actually had a lesson with him last Monday and we talked about baptism... HE'S GONNA BE BAPTIZED!! He told us how much he wants to be baptized, so we put him on date for baptism for November 28th and we couldn't be more excited for him. He is honestly so ready to make this promise with his Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ. We had like 2 more lessons with him, and it was such an amazing miracle.
With Edwin
So we had a goal of getting a couple new people to teach this week, and we hadn't done too much to put an effort into that.... so fast forward to Sunday night and it's 8:59 pm, a minute before our day ends and we decide to call one more person. We had the faith to get one more lesson, and the faith to get a new person to teach. We call this guy Daniel and he answers and next thing you know, 20 minutes later we had our final lesson, had shared a scripture and talked about repentance, and we set up a return appointment. It. Was. Awesome. That shows ya right there what happens when you have FAITH!!

We have another fun person were talking to. Her name is Kathryn and she is a member that is wanting to come back to church! So we had this lesson with her this last week, and honestly it was one of the more spiritual lessons I've ever had. She opened up a lot to us about her struggles, and how she wants to better understand how God loves her. Well we shared our testimonies of the Book of Mormon and of praying to feel God's love more. Sister Martin, one of my companions, actually had a really cool experience that related to Kathryn SO MUCH! Man. The spirit was so strong. And then all of a sudden the next day, we get a text from Kathryn's grandpa and we were a little scared at first... turns out he's a super active member and he was just thanking us for helping his granddaughter. That was super cool as well lol.
Shopping with Katheryn!

Alrighty here's such a cool miracle. Make sure you're sitting down to read it... so I mentioned last week our friend Mark... well we got a call from the assistants and they told us Elder Alliaud of the 70 was going to join one of our lessons. WHAT?! We had been praying that that could've happened, and it did! Yay! We tried to call and text Mark and he wouldn't answer and that made us really nervous. We decided to call him with *67, and he answered... turns out he thought we ghosted him but he actually blocked us by mistake WHAT ×2!!! Flash forward to this last Thursday and we had a lesson with a general authority... WHAT ×3! The spirit was so strong and so amazing and we know that Mark will be baptized.

Honestly, this week showed me how important praying with faith is. Everyone... GO PRAY WITH FAITH! love you all! Keep Mark in your prayers :))

Week #42 - YUMA is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!

Monday, November 9, 2020

Me with my new companions: Sister Hartley and Sister Martin

HEYOOOOO! This week was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!! So many miracles here in Yuma. So, we are over the YSA here and also the Yuma Valley ward. The YSA has a lot of people here in the Marines and also in the National Guard. So that's been fun! Me and my companions have the BEST of times. Sister Martin was reassigned from New Zealand, and Sister Hartley has been in AZ the whole time.

Service always is better with lemonade!

Buuuut here are some miracles from the week:

This week we started teaching our friend named Rocell and she is from.the Phillipines! Her English is really good though. We taught her the first half of the Restoration, and then gave her a Book of Mormon and she read the chapter that we had told her to and understand like all of it. Then we had a lesson with her yesterday and my oh my she just loved hearing about Joseph Smith and the Restoration. She also had a highlighter and was highlighting all the verses we shared with her. It was soooo cool! We are going to start meeting with her like 3 times a week!!

So we have a funny recent convert named Joey... and he is super cool. But he has this thing with missionaries where they have to pass this initiation. So me and Sister Martin are going through that right now but he gave us nicknames. My nickname is guillotine... hahaha but he's been praying whether or not to serve a mission and this week he decided... TO SERVE A MISSION YAHOO!! We are stoked for him.
Initiation picture made by Joey

We have another friend we are teaching named Kaylee and we invited her to a recent convert devotional last night and she came and she LOOOVED it!! She then messaged us afterwards and told us that she felt so accepted that night and loved and she hadn't felt that for a while. It was so cool!!

Yesterday at church, our friend Myles who got baptized 2 months ago was able to pass the sacrament for the first time and our other friend Michael White who got baptized 2 weeks ago got the priesthood. I am so grateful for the Priesthood. It has blessed my life so much and I have seen the miracles from those who have the priesthood.

I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY!! have a great week everyone :))

Week #41 - Ten Months out & Going to YUMA

Monday, November 2, 2020

The TEMPLE! With Sister McEwen

WHAT. A. WEEK. Some crazy things are gonna be happening this next week... I'm getting transferred and I'm going to Yuma (aka, the holy land as it is called in our mission). Literally it's the best place in the mission, or least that's what everyone has said hahaha! I'm going to be in a trio down there, but I'll for sure have more info about all of that next week! But I am sad to be leaving here and to say goodbye to Sister McEwen, my amazing daughter. Our time together has been awesome. But change is good. Here are some milagres (miracles) from this last week:

Well, we asked some of our ward members who we should reach out to, and they gave us a TON of names. So we reached out to a couple of them this week. One of them was the nicest lady who had a family member recently passed away, and it was really hard because of this crazy covid. So we decorated her front door with hearts and gave her cookies, and she LOVED it. She texted us later on telling us how much it meant to us. It always makes me soooo happy to see others happy from service!
Delivering cookies and hearts

This week, we got a call from one of our neighbors and they told me that they had pao de queijo and guarana (brazilian food and drink) for me!! YAY! I was the happiest ever!
Pao de queijo and guarana (that is what is in
the Dr Pepper box--more quarana from a member
who served in Brasilia. Our members our so kind to
take such good care of us! I love them!

Probably the best thing from this week was that I was able to go to the TEMPLE!! WHAAAT? My companion, Sister McEwen, had the opportunity to go through this past week and when going through the temple, you have someone (usually a family member) who goes through with you and helps you. So I was going to do that with her since her parents couldn't come (they live in Europe). Then we get to the temple, and her sister surprises her by being there! So that was super cool and such an amazing spiritual experience. The last time I had been in the temple was 7 and a half months ago. I love the temple!!

This week was also Halloween, so we were able to chill that night which was fun. But, we do have this one adorable neighbor and she always comes over and brings us yummy food. She isn't a member, but she is special. So she came over this week and brought us yummy bread, and I felt the prompting to give her a Book of Mormon... and she took it! Turns out two other sisters had the same prompting as well. So I guess what I learned from that is to ALWAYS follow your promptings!!

My oh my I love being a missionary, and honestly these past couple months have been pretty hard. But I have learned how to rely on my Savior, and how we can find that hope in Him. So trust in Him, and He will help you!!

Here's one of my favorite verses from the Book of Mormon that talks about trusting in the Lord. Alma 36:3 - "for I do know that whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions, and shall be lifted up at the last day."

LOVE YOU ALL!!

♡Sister Guilott♡

Sister Goasland spent the night and worked with the other
sisters in our house. It was so fun to have her with us!

Pretty Arizona Sunset at our house in San Tan Valley!

Week #40 - Talks at Church, Reading The Book of Mormon in 40 Days & A New Family

 Monday, October 26, 2020

WHAT. AN. AMAZING. WEEK.
Literally an amazing week. Sooooo many miracles. Let me start off by saying God is good. Here's some of the miracles I saw this week...

We got out of quarantine and now we are sooo happy hahaha! But honestly, quarantine is hard. But now we dont have to be stuck inside all day lol!!
This was definitely the biggest miracle from this last week. I wrote about that family we were going to be teaching, and we finally were able to teach them this week! We taught the Restoration and there is something so powerful about the Restoration, and we were able to see that with this family!! They asked all about the temples, and sealing, and missionary work and it was AWESOME!! It's nice to finally have someone to teach again hahaha. But they are the Davis family. We are gonna have dinner with them this next week, and do service as well.

We got the wonderful opportunity to speak in church this week and it was such a cool experience. This is actually my first time speaking as a missionary which is super cool! We got the topic of Hope in Jesus Christ and I have been able to find so much hope through him. I also got the opportunity to speak on the Arizona Tempe Mission church service on facebook and that was such a fun experience as well! And I also finished reading the Book of Mormon in 40 days and WOWZA... IT IS SO TRUE!!! I love being able to share the gospel with others and the opportunity to be a missionary. (You can find the video of my talk on FB under Arizona Tempe Mission/Videos/October 25th)
Sorry this is a little shorter, but know that I am grateful for all of you and keep you all in my prayers. Love you all so much!! Also wouldn't mind a little email from anyone 😊

Week #39 - Miracles in Quarantine Still Happen

 Monday, October 19, 2020

OI TUDO MUNDO!!!!
What a great week. Miracles truly happen when you least expect them to. AKA: quarantine lol. We saw some cool things happen this week and it was SO FUN!! Here they are...
While in quarantine, we have had to think outside of the box. So we have our app on our phone that gives us the numbers for our members and for those we are teaching, but we decided to go through the SIM card on our phone. We came across a lot of names we didnt recognize, so we called them and said something like, "hey it's the sisters! is this *so and so*" they usually say yes , "cool, we actually have no idea who you are. We just have your number saved in our phone." Then that sparks a conversation with them hahaha! Wellllllll... we called this one lady named Cassidy, and she was super kind. She told us she isn't apart of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but that she has family, friends, and neighbors that are. Well, turns out I had actually found Cassidy on FB the day before. WHAT??? Anywho we talk to her for a minute and she is so kind. Fast forward to this Saturday when we go for it and call her again and asked her if we could come over this next friday (our quarantine ends on Thursday) and then she told us, "you probably want my whole family there, so can you come over on thursday?" WELL OF COURSE WE CAN!! So that will be happening this week and we are pumped! Definitely a quarantine miracle.

I have been using facebook a lot. Trying to think of different ways to reach out to people. I was searching through this group and this girl shared some of her concerns about the unknown of the afterlife. I reached out to her, we ended up chatting on fb messenger for a couple days and we have a lot in common and then we had a video call with her this past week and taught her all about the plan of Salvation and she absolutely loved it! It was cool to see a miracle happen from Facebook like that. We are still talking and hopefully will be able to teach her again this week!

Those are the main big things that happened this past week. But we did have something funny happen this week...
So our zone has all been into pranking, so the elders on the reservation came and dropped off a sketchy doll to he, so we pranked the elders in our district and they still dont know it was us. It's been fun since we are getting stir crazy here in quarantine. I'll attach some pictures of when we pranked them this week!!
Overall, these past 2 weeks of quarantine have been miracle filled. Crazy what happens when God's plan is better than what you imagined. I love being a missionary and I love you all as well!!!

Also, here's a scripture that I loved from this week (shout out to papa G)
3 Nephi 18:24
"Therefore, hold up your light that it may shine unto the world. Behold I am the light which ye shall hold up—that which ye have seen me do. Behold ye see that I have prayed unto the Father, and ye all have witnessed."
SHINE YOUR LIGHT TOWARDS OTHERS!!!

Week #38 - Quarantined AGAIN...

 Monday, October 12, 2020

HELLOOOO!! This week was definitely interesting.... here's some fun stuff that happened!

Wednesday we had exchanges, and I was with Sister Vance in her area for the day. It was soooooo much fun! And we got to teach some non members which is nice, because I haven't done that too much lol. But it was honestly such a fun day. We made some cookies with some elders in our zone, and it's this random recipe this one elder has and he has never made it before... it was fun hahaha! But for dinner, I went back to my area with Sister McEwen and we went to the most kind families house. We had dinner with them last week, and went to their house for general conference! But they have the most ADORABLE twin boys that are 3, and when we were leaving, they gave me and Sister McEwen flowers from a bush outside... it was adorable... so of course we got a picture with them!

This week we also had... ZONE CONFERENCE! And we went up to Casa Grande (my last area yeehaw) and we had a blast! And after that, we went to this one guy Sylvester's house, because he said we could the day before, and we got to get to know him a little bit, and then he told us that we could come back on Sunday to have a lesson with him! And he had a Book of Mormon right Mormon with him!! And then........

The next day on Friday, we got a call from our zone leaders and we are officially in quarantine again because someone at one of the zone conference's got tested positive for covid, and so to be safe with all the missionaries since we were all exposed, we are in a 2 week quarantine. Yaaaaaaaaaaay... honestly, I was super sad when I found out, but me and Sister McEwen have seen miracles of people we've been trying to call have answered, or now we have time to study a little more. It's gonna be all good. So be sure to keep the Tempe mission in your prayers so we dont go crazy hahaha!

One thing we've been trying to use more is FACEBOOK! And we've seen awesome miracles from that. We are saying a bunch of prayers with people, offering service (for when we're out of quarantine), and honestly so much more.

Even though it's been a different mission experience than I thought it would be, it's honestly just what I need. I love my Savior and I love learning more about Him, the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith, and SO MUCH MORE!

Love you all! I loooooove recieving emails and letters... so send em all my way!
